A new bridge over the Volga River in Samara Region is being protected by VMP coating

On July 16, the road bypass of Tolyatti and the bridge over the river Volga were opened in the Samara Region. Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the start to the movement and noted: “The highway will make automobile traffic in the region more comfortable and safer, relieve traffic congestion on the road at the dam of Zhigulevskaya HPP and more fully reveal the export, logistics, industrial and tourist potential of this region of the Volga region”.

The new bridge across the Volga River near Tolyatti has entered the top list of the longest engineering structures in Russia. The length of the new bridge crossing – 3.7 km, width – 14.4 m in each direction of the road, the number of supports – 26, the number of superstructures – 25, the length of spans is 157.5 m, the total weight of steel structures is more than 120 thousand tons, the height of the bridge above the water is 20 m, the design speed of traffic is 120 km/h, maximum traffic capacity – 40 thousand cars per day.

Anticorrosive protection of bridge crossing is ensured by VMP Holding materials. A total of 450 tons of VMP products were delivered to the site, the total area of coating is more than 260 thousand sq. m. The main steel structures are coated with ISOLEP-primer + ISOLEP-mio + POLYTON-UR (UV) coating systems widely used in transportation construction. ISOLEP-primer primer coat was applied to bridge structures at the factories. On site, the structure was painted with ISOLEP-mio epoxy enamel and POLYTON-UR (UV) finishing enamel resistant to UV radiation.

Galvanized surfaces (fairing cornice blocks, railings) are protected with ISOLEP-mastic + POLYTON-UR (UV) coating system.

The construction of the motor highway bypassing Tolyatti with the length of almost 100 km and the bridge crossing lasted for five years. 39 flyovers and bridges were built on the road. Highway built by “Dorogi and Mosti” JSC became a part of the “Europe – Western China” international transport route. 140 billion rubles were invested in this project. It is planned to return the funds, among other things, by charging tolls on the roads and bridges.
